The time for 5G is now. The wait is over, finally, as network operators and carriers alike are taking the rubber to the road. Across the globe test deployments are turning primetime, and this much hyped technology is settling to support performance and services for years to come.

Today, Korea Telecom announced the selection of Oracle (News - Alert) Communications for the 5G Policy Control Function (PCF) for the deployment of its 5G network as well as offer the ability to provide businesses with Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) solutions.

“By delivering a solution that addresses 5G policy requirements and underpins Korea Telecom’s (News - Alert) leading 5G transformation,” said Andy Hicks, Principal Analyst at GlobalData, “Oracle is staking a claim to leadership in the 5G core.”

Korea Telecom is now able to rapidly launch and configure custom network slices, delivering the exact requirements via logically isolating virtualized network services. The new NaaS service allows for the deployment of next generation solutions like smart cities, smart factories as well as AR and VR to connected cars.

“As we extend our partnership with visionary, Korea Telecom beyond our collective 4G success, Oracle is unlocking doors to new innovations in this next generation of connectivity spanning from enterprise applications to smart ecosystems,” said Doug Suriano, senior vice president and general manager, Oracle Communications.

Innovation is leading the way into the long-awaited 5G world, and those with the foresight to embrace this technology and opportunities therein will reap the rewards for years to come.
