Three things are unavoidable in life: death, taxes and technology hype. Some hype is just that, fodder for rhetoric and pontification; however, there is technology out there receiving well deserved attention. One of these is SD-WAN. In allowing software to define parameters for application performance, connecting disparate branches and an easily scalable network focus can go to the bottom line and business operations – not, “why is Salesforce not loading?”.

This is where application-aware SD-WAN steps in to save the day. The perks associated with SD-WAN are plain to see, and with this burgeoning market comes a cornucopia of opportunity. Recently, PlanetOne Communications announced a new partnership with Aryaka (News - Alert) to gain access to its SD-WAN solution and augment its customer base. The arrangement allows for PlanetOne channel partners to turn to enterprises and offer a modern replacement to legacy MPLS.

“We’re excited to partner with PlanetOne Communications,” said Jim Hilbert, Chief Revenue Officer at Aryaka. “As global businesses look to replace their legacy MPLS-based connectivity, they need a WAN solution that is quick to deploy, affordable to use, simple to manage, and offers performance improvements for all applications including SaaS (News - Alert); all this in addition to the reliability and consistency traditional MPLS users have come to expect. Aryaka’s global SD-WAN is the ideal MPLS replacement solution. Our partnership with PlanetOne will help us expand our market footprint and channel revenue.”

In addition to providing a mechanism for network modernization, the newly minted partnership puts Aryaka in a position to extend its reach within the telecom and IT partner communities. PlanetOne offers the opportunity to connect with its VARs, MSPs and agents.

“SD-WAN is a high-growth service opportunity for the IT channel and a breakthrough innovation that makes real-time connectivity a reality for businesses of all sizes,” said Ted Schuman, Co-Founder and CEO, PlanetOne. “Aryaka is an industry leader and we’re excited to work with Jim and his team to build on Aryaka’s channel growth and capitalize on the growing interest and demand for SD-WAN.”

Depending on the prediction de jour, the SD-WAN space has some room to spread its wings to the tune of 90 percent CAGR in the coming years. While I’m not ready to call this a crowded space, there is certainly some urgency in adding SD-WAN to one’s portfolio of offerings.

Let me ask you, is SD-WAN one of those technologies where the hype matches reality?
