The New York Yankees, while I’m not a fan – frankly I detest them – one has to respect their ability to be back in the playoffs year after year competing for a World Series title. How did they do it? Sure, they have a nice core of homegrown players, but… prized free agents have been pivotal in taking the Bronx Bombers over the top.

Top SD-WAN vendor Fortinet (News - Alert) has acquired CyberSponse, which gives access to the Security, Orchestration, Automation and Response (SOAR) platform CyberSponse developed. This brings Fortinet’s acquisition count to 13.

Fortinet had already integrated the CyberSponse SOAR platform into Fortinet’s Security Fabric. The abovementioned automation is the key component of the transaction The Fortinet FortiSIEM, FortiGate and FortAnalyzer can enjoy extended automation.

For me, Fortinet has long been synonymous with security. And, in a world where security is paramount, it is a key reason why the provider is pushing its way to the top of the SD-WAN space. The recent acquisition adds a robust platform capable of collecting and analyzing network data that then will automatically address security threats.

"The growing number of security tools being deployed by enterprises have introduced operational complexities that make organizations more vulnerable to breaches," said Fortinet CEO Ken Xie. "With the integration of CyberSponse's powerful SOAR platform into the Fortinet Security Fabric, we will offer customers accelerated incident response and the ability to standardize and scale processes that will enhance security posture and reduce business risk and associated costs."

Well played, Fortinet. The best keep getting better.

What’s in your WAN?
